BatteryIQ provides students with a simplified system to understand, identify, respond, and mitigate to lithium-ion battery incidents, covering everything from cellphones and electric scooters/bikes to electric vehicle fires and energy storage system failures. Students will be provided with Battery Response Guides that allow them to quickly, effectively, and efficiently categorize battery-related emergencies based on battery type and failure stage. These categories then guide students to determine the potential hazards, PPE, recommended equipment, and correct emergency operation tactics when arriving on-scene of a Li-ION Battery Emergency.
Learning Objectives:
Understand how Li-ION batteries work and the chemistry of Li-ION batteries.
Select and explain common causes of battery failures, understand cascading failure, and determine severity of battery failure.
Identify the indicators, hazards & PPE, Resources and Response Considerations, and Recommended Products & Equipment needed to respond to common Li-ION categories, such as cell phone/laptop, personal mobility devices, EV, solar, energy storage systems, and structure fires.
