I retired as a Special Operations Battalion Chief from the Orem Fire Department in Utah. I am proud to call myself a firefighter. I was on the job for 24 years. I was also a sworn Law Enforcement Officer for 18 years and Paramedic for 16 years. I am currently an Associate Professor in the Emergency Services Department, College of Health and Public Service at UVU. I am also the Coordinator of the Firefighter Recruit Candidate Academy (RCA) program at UVU for entry level firefighters, a certificate level program. I am an experienced Emergency Services Instructor working for local, state, and national Fire/EMS and Law Enforcement organizations to include the Center for Domestic Preparedness, FBI Academy, Quantico, VA, and the National Fire Academy (NFA) in Emmitsburg, MD specializing in Hazmat Chemistry for Emergency Responders. I am a co-developer of the NFA course Advanced Science of Hazmat/WMD Response (2018). I was asked by the Dept. of Transportation to review and validate the Emergency Response Guidebook for 2020. I have reviewed and contributed to several textbooks related to Hazmat/WMD chemistry and response and I am a frequent course reviewer and subject matter expert in the areas of Hazmat, Firefighting, Leadership and Management. I am a member of the NFPA 53, 470, nd 475 Technical Committees. I received the John P. O’Gorman Making a Difference Award from the International Association of Fire Chiefs Hazardous Materials Conference in 2016. I am a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program (2007). I hold an Associate degree in Fire Science, a Bachelor’s degree in public emergency services management and a Master’s Degree in Education with an emphasis on Instructional Technology from Utah State University (2009).
