This presentation will start by reviewing and identifying the requirements and guidelines set forth by OSHA and NFPA for the training requirements of each level of Hazmat certifications ie: Awareness, Operations, Technician, Specialist, etc... The presenter will discuss effective ways to start or improve your training program for your Department and / or your Hazmat Response Team. We will discuss the use of technology to include keeping records of team training as well as certificates to stay in compliance for trainings. Then the presenter will discuss ways to train your team by using and building table top exercises and practical application in the field. Examples of this will be identifying unknown by using simple household chemicals for categorizing liquids, solids, or gases, terrorism responses, decontamination responses to thinking outside of the box for creative trainings. The participants will also be shown examples of tabletop exercises to use for their team from first response to technical response. The participants will be shown how to build an exercise and what information to include as the ready their teams or departments for a response. The participants will also be shown where FREE Federal training is available to them either virtually, mobile, or by travel and how to access these valuable trainings. ** Note** This presentation will be an interactive presentation for the participants from question and answer to ideas or what has worked for participants to share with the audience.
Learning Objectives:
The participant will by the end of the presentation be able to define the what the JPRs that are for each level of hazmat training by review of
OSHA 1910.120 and NFPA 470 as well of use of the Incident Command system.
The Participant will be shown how to setup a training program and track their team / department progress as well as keep digital copies of pertinent certificates.
The participant by the end of this class will be able to define and use scenario guidelines to be able to train their teams level of training effectively and safely and will be given examples of training scenarios by the presenter.
