HazMat Teams are constantly being pulled in new directions, staining our resources that are already competing for funding and time. But can we use this mission creep to our advantage? With growing costs and shrinking budgets can we offer more value to our agencies and help make hazmat a valued asset? In this presentation we will exam some nontraditional hazmat roles that can be seen as value added for our agencies. We will look at training, technical rescue, illicit labs, energy storage and even arson for new opportunities for hazmat teams and funding sources as we look forward to new challenges and missions. By expanding our roles in some nontraditional arenas, jurisdictions can get more for their dollar, and help to justify the expense. These new missions and partnerships can give us access to new and nonconventional funding sources to help support us in this ever-changing arena of hazardous materials response. Are you ready for new missions?
