This session will include a discussion on the misconceptions and myths of Gas Phase FTIR in hazardous materials response and a presentation on how the RedWave XplorIR is dispelling those myths. The participants will also engage in a conversation about the gap in traditional reconnaissance air monitoring and hazard detection technology and how the XplorIR is now filling that gap utilizing a Continuous Monitoring Mode and Adaptive Atmospheric Correction for real-time identification of gasses and vapors present in the atmosphere. The session will finish up with hands-on stations for the participants to conduct comparative sampling using traditional monitors and the XplorIR to demonstrate the improved identification of hazards and the correct interpretation of monitor readings when employing Gas Phase FTIR.
Learning Objectives:
Discuss and debunk common misconceptions and myths of FTIR in hazardous materials incident response and demonstrate the relevance and ease of use of FTIR gas identification techniques.
Identify the limitations of current detection and identification techniques and show how new FTIR instruments are able to extend response capabilities and enhance safety.
Conduct gas/vapor sampling using traditional monitors and the RedWave XplorIR to demonstrate competence in the interpretation of air monitor readings and hazard/risk assessments using the RedWave XplorIR.
