The focus of the course is to apply emergency medical response to a hazardous materials incidents for Pre-Hospital Response Team by exploring the toxicology and the medical response from initial response, to the effects on body systems, injuries and treatment modalities. The modalities used are ones used by the Orlando Fire Department and are state level procedures written by the presenter. The main goal is to identify and outline areas of medical importance when dealing with a Hazardous Materials incident (the toxicology). The assessment is from a TEAM prospective with emphasis on Team Safety and Support (diagnostics). The presentation is organized to assist the team members in making decisions based upon information gained and weighted on a scale of risk versus benefit (field application).
